GATE Mechanical is one of the 23 paper of GATE (graduate aptitude test in engineering) examination which is annually conducted by a group of IIT’s and IISc under MHRD of Gov of India.

·        GATE Mechanical is a gate way to enter in the world of Mechanical Engineering for Masters (PhD, M.Tech, ME and MS) from prestigious institute like IIT’s, IISc, IIST, DIAT and others in India. Eligibility for GATE Mechanical Examination-

·        Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology(4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Bachelor’s degree holders of Four-year program in Science (BS) and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Holders of Four-year Integrated Master’s degree(Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology and those in the second or higher year of such programs.

·        Holders of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering / Technology and those in the fourth or higher year of such programs.

·        Holders of Five-year integrated M.Sc. or Five year integrated B.Sc. /M.Sc. degree and those in the final year of such programs.

·        Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to BE/B.Tech. Those who have completed section A of AMIE or AeSI or equivalent of such professional courses is also eligible.

Validity of GATE Mechanical Score-

·        Validity of GATE score is for three years.

GATE Mechanical Syllabus-

·        GATE Mechanical Syllabus is consist of the core subjects of four years of bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.

·        It also has Engineering mathematics and General Aptitude in syllabus.

GATE Mechanical Question paper-

·        GATE Mechanical question paper is divided in three different sections

o  Engineering Mathematics (around 15 marks).

o  Core Subjects (Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics &Thermal Sciences, Material science, Manufacturing, Industrial and Operation Engineering)- (around 70 marks)

o  General Aptitude- (around 15 marks)

GATE Mechanical Question type-

·        Question paper will have two kinds of problems;MCQ’s and fill in the blanks.

·        Question paper will have short problems of 1 marks as well as advanced problems of two marks.

·        MCQ’s problem carries negative marking (1/3 for 1 mark problem and 2/3 for 2 mark problems) and fill in the problems does not carry any negative marking

GATE Mechanical Engineering cut off marks-

·        Cut of marks for GATE Mechanical Engineering was around 30 marks for GATE 2017.
